Sweetser’s Fresh Start residential program treats mental health challenges, prevents homelessness, and gives young Mainers a successful foundation to draw upon when they live on their own.

Who We Serve

Young adults in Maine aged 18-24 who have experienced childhood trauma or system involvement, such as foster care or in the criminal justice system, or have had a psychiatric hospital stay.

Services Offered

The program provides a physical, therapeutic place for young adults to receive:

  • Individual & group treatment
  • Enrichment activities
  • Social interactions within a group setting
  • Support & skill development to join the workforce, go to school, or volunteer

Support Team

These young adults will have a team working with them, treating them, and giving them the tools and resources to be successful. The team includes a:

  • Program Manager
  • Transitional Coordinator
  • Nurse Practitioner
  • Co-occurring Clinician
  • Direct Care Team
  • Youth Peer

There are only a handful of these programs across Maine. Sweetser’s program fills a gap in services for youth in Southern Maine.
