Description
This Youth Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training, brought to you by Sweetser & the Augusta Teen Center, is a FREE certification course teaching skills for:
- Recognizing common signs & symptoms of mental health and substance use challenges in adolescents
- Intervening and supporting an adolescent facing mental health or substance use challenges
- Mental health and substance use crisis intervention and de-escalation
- Connecting youth with appropriate mental health supports, including mental healthcare resources across Maine
- Understanding the impact of trauma and bullying on youth/teen mental health
- Practicing self-care and building self-care habits (how to better support yourself to better support others!)
Taught by certified MHFA Instructors from Sweetser, licensed through the National Council for Mental Wellbeing. Completion of this training awards Youth Mental Health First Aider certification through NCMW, valid for 3 years.
Training Workshop Details:
Friday July 12, 2024 - Fully In-Person, 8:30am - 4:30pm
@ the Augusta Teen Center (244 Water Street, Augusta ME 04330)
Training participants must be 18 years or older.
Youth MHFA Training can be credited on completion as 7.5 professional development hours; this training is not eligible for credit as continuing education units (CEUs) for professional licensure in Maine.
Thanks to a federal grant through the Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Sweetser offers Youth MHFA and other mental health awareness trainings for FREE to all who live or work Maine.
